Google Android nun 100% Open Source Projekt!


Kurz vor dem G1-Start veröffentlichte Google den Source Code

Google und die Open Handset Alliance haben heute den kompletten Android-Betriebssystem Source Code veröffentlicht, was soviel heißt, dass nun wirklich jeder wirklich die gesamte Plattform mitgestalten kann um Applikationen und Modifizierungen anzubieten.

Wie ihr oben sehen könnt wirbt auch bereits die Startseite von Android mit der Betitelung “Open Source Project”, wie auch das Video von Dave Bort & Dan Bornstein erläutert:

Rich Miner, Manager des Android-Betriebssystems sagte in einem Interview:

“Our plan is a launching point for a much more vibrant open-source community. For the past almost four years, this has been a large effort between Google and our partners. There have been a lot of people working on the code but that’s going to be multiplied by several orders of magnitude.“

Einige Open-Source Fans kritisierten, dass Google zu nah am Android-Projekt beteiligt wäre und somit die “Qualität” eines wirklichen Open-Source-Projekts gefährdet sei aber Miner erläutert, dass Android ein wirkliches und absolut echtes Open Source Projekt sei.

“It was built with intention of open-sourcing it,” Miner said, pointing specifically to project details such as its architecture, comments in the code, and the code’s structure. “We decided we didn’t need to build release 1.0 as open source…We engineered 1.0 as a best-in-class, fully staffed, engineered product. Having delivered that, we think it’s time to start leveraging the benefits of what open source can bring.“
